Be a Rapid Response Team Member!
The Missions Committee has taken on a new project and is asking for your help that, in turn, could help older Americans in their retirement years. The North Central Kansas Flint Hill Area Agency on Aging, which serves 18 counties and is a non-profit agency, receives money from the federal and state government to provide help for older Americans who have outlived their savings and need help. The problem is these government funds have not kept pace with the cost of living and the number of older Americans is growing. People are living longer and, therefore, spend more time in their retirement years. Time they may not have financially planned for.
In 1965, the federal government passed the Older Amiercans Act to help people who have outlived their savings. However, the Older Americans Act has not had a significant raise in funding since 1979. As a result, as of July 1, 1999, all federal and state funds for in home service have been frozen due to lack of money. In order to get our representatives attention, our Agency on Aging is striving to set up Rapid Response Teams to call our legislators when they are scheduled to take a vote on this issue. We would like for you to join the Missions Committee by giving us your name, address and phone number and we will mail you material about federal legislators so you can contact them and urge them to do what you believe is right. If you wish to join our Rapid Response Team, please call Roy Brotton (823-0622) or the church office (825-5170) and tell them you wish to join the RRT group. We would appreciate your help!
