United Methodist Church of the Cross strives to have a monthly 24-hour prayer vigil. Individuals sign up to pray for one hour at a time and, together, we fill a 24-hour period with constant prayer.
The disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray. He offered them a prayer that has become the Lord's Prayer for us today. He also taught them that whenever we pray with persistence, God will hear us as the neighbor who rises from his bed to respond to the needs of his neighbors. Jesus also taught that wherever two or three are gathered in His name, their voices will be heard with a present King of heaven. I am convinced that Jesus was teaching us that our prayers don't change God's will but our prayers change us so that we come to understand God's will and we grow in our faith and our ability to live according to God's will.
Our prayer vigils are a time of renewing the Spirit within our Church through the prayers of individuals and couples and families. It is in these times that we discover God's will for our community and our personal lives. ALL are welcome to come and pray during the 24 hours of our vigil. We used some guided prayers, we lift up family and friends in need of God's healing touch and we renew our own spirits. This time is reminder of Paul's encouragement, "Let us pray, everywhere, everyday! Let us Pray!
